The ACA Blood Test diagnoses antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), an autoimmune disorder causing anticardiolipin antibodies that disrupt blood clotting, leading to excessive clotting and increasing the risk of blood clots, thrombocytopenia, and pregnancy complications like preeclampsia, premature labor, and miscarriages. A positive result does not guarantee APS, as low levels may be found in those with HIV, cancer, infections, elderly, or taking certain drugs. Retesting after 6-8 weeks is recommended as a diagnosis requires repeated positive results. The ACA Blood Test measures anticardiolipin antibodies (IgG and IgM) and is also known as Antiphospholipid or Cardiolipin Antibodies. No fasting is required.
