The ALD blood test measures the amount of aldosterone in the blood. Aldosterone is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands above the kidneys, which also produce other crucial hormones. High levels of aldosterone can lead to high blood pressure and low potassium, a condition known as hyperaldosteronism. A non-cancerous adrenal tumor can cause primary hyperaldosteronism.
